Kongkea Chhay {Field & Operations Manager}
At the age of 22, Kongkea moved from the countryside of Takeo Province to the city of Siem Reap. Upon arrival, he quickly found a job waiting tables at a Khmer restaurant in order to save enough money to buy his own tuk-tuk. Determined to succeed, Kongkea spent evenings studying English, which he then used to communicate with his customers.
After living in Siem Reap for one year, he returned to his homeland to finish high school. Upon graduation, Kongkea returned to Siem Reap to train in the Community-Based Activities program at the Shinta Mani Hotel. This led to a position with the Coalition for Financial Independence, where he served as a project assistant until joining Push Pull Cambodia as the Field & Operations manager.
In the fall of 2010, Kongkea enrolled in the Business Management Program at Cambodia University for Specialties. He is thrilled to be making steps towards improving Cambodia and hopes to run his own business or NGO in the future. The Push Pull Cambodia weaving center is located in Kongkea’s homeland in Takeo Province and employs many of his family, friends and neighbors. |
